Yesterday, Cheryl and I went shopping for my birthday present. We decided that if she were to get me something while I was with her, it would be more of what I actually wanted. I have wanted a black leather jacket for some time now. I got her a black leather jacket two or three Christmas’ ago and I have been looking for me one since then. We found one at Dillards in the mall and then decided to eat at Cancun’s Mexican Restaurant for a late lunch. But before we could get out of Dillards, she found a Fossil purse she just had to have. So, of course I got it for her. An early Valentines Day present that she can’t have until February 14.
We go to Cancuns so often that when we sit down, the waitress already has our diet cokes ready for us and asking if we care to try something different today. You see, we usually order the same thing every time. Nachos Cancun. You can’t beat-em.
Turning thirty didn’t bother me any more than the other 29 birthdays did. It was just another day. I don’t care much for celebrating birthdays. Never really have since I was a kid. Cheryl’s family makes a big to-do about them. To me, it is just another day gone by. Later.
I am turning this blog into an advice column. But there is going to be a twist. I will have help in answer your questions and solving life’s biggest problems. There will be two of us responding to every question and situation. But I will warn you up front. Do not ask a question you do not want to know the answer to. You can put your name or leave it anonymous. Just leave the question in the comments or e-mail me. Let the games begin.

Friends with benefits
The other night my family and myself watched the NBC special “411 on teen sex”. Although not much of what was said come as big shock to me due to my teenage son tells us a lot more than we want to know sometimes. Here are some of the terms and statistics quoted from the show.
“Friends with benefits” Friend’s who have sex or other relations with no commitment. Over 50% of the teens polled say they have these friends.
“3rd base” When I was growing-up 3rd base was heavy petting. Now a days, it means oral sex. “It’s not a big deal, no big whoop” was what one teen said. The majority of teens on the show said that they do not use protection during oral sex. Girls tend to give oral sex more than the boys because for the girl to receive, they have to expose themselves more. A lot of girls use oral sex as a way to avoid having intercourse and pregnancy. Teens who have had oral sex-13%. Teens who have gone all the way-13%. These are the numbers from the 13-16 year old group. What teens do not realize is the negative impact from oral sex. Someone could become emotional, dehumanization, STDs, lowering self worth.
“Hooking-up” Is just a one-night thing, no emotions. This is nothing new, but the problem is that kids are doing this.
“Secondary virginity” A person who has had sexual activity prior but has vowed to abstain until later when they are more mature. 88% of teens that say they are not going to have sex until they are married do not succeed.
Parents who say they have talked to their teens about sex-85%.
Teens who say their parents have talked to them about sex-14%.
Parents need to prepare their kids for the world they are going to enter. When you have a president who says “I have not had sexually relations with this woman” when in fact he had oral sex, what kind of example are you giving the youth? I mean, what kind of example is the parent setting when they are an alcoholic chain-smoker telling their children not to drink or smoke? Parents should set an example on how they should be. Live by example so to speak. Parents need to listen more. Don’t try to be cool, just be honest. Parents need to explain the consequences of having sex, even oral sex. Parents should also share their past experiences with their kids so that the kids can learn from their parent’s mistakes.
Bottom line is that kids want to be accepted and loved. If this isn’t found at home, they will try to find it elsewhere, perhaps in the back seat of Johnny’s car or at the bottom of a beer bottle. Later.

$25 Bucks a day!
That is right folks. I am making $25 bucks a day to sit on my rear-end for Jury Duty. I reported today and was released at 11:05 AM and told to call a number at 6 PM to see if I have to go back. I do. 9 AM Tuesday. That is two days I get to sleep late. About 150 or so showed up this morning at 8 AM. About 30 were selected to report at 1:30 PM to a court room while the rest were released. Don't know if I will get picked, but I wouldn't mind experiencing the Judicial System from the jury box at least one time. It is real busy at work and it is tearing me up inside knowing that I can't go and help the guys out. I read three Field and Stream magazines, one NETA World and watched the Today show and The Price is Right. It wasn't as bad as folks make it out to be. Some were complaining the whole time. I probably would also if my employer didn't pay me to be on jury duty.
I brought Chris and Phillip from next door dirtbike riding Saturday at the lease. It was fun. A couple of bruises and scratches but no broken bones. Chris is getting really good at starting his bike. I sat at the camp shooting 8mm mausers while they were out riding. "You might be a Redneck if you spend your Saturdays shooting down trees with a high powered rifle for enjoyment." I had two Turkish Mausers that I would switch out when they got too hot. After a while, the heat coming off of the sights make the trees hard to see. Later.

The Big Three O!
As some of you may already know, I will be turning 30 on January 28, 2005. It doesn’t bother me at all to be turning 30; I just never could imagine me being old. I mean, 30, hell, that’s half way to retirement. I’m damn near holding the bucket, drawing my leg back to kick-it.
I was working with a fellow one time that told me that you should have mastered a craft and have a second to fall back on by the time you reach 30. And I did.
I am doing pretty good at this testing stuff, and I always have the electrical construction to fall back on. Plus I am currently working on getting an associates degree in Instrumentation. Looking around at some other folks my age, I am not doing all that bad I guess. Later.

Maiden voyage...
Yesterday Chris and I went to the lease for the first time since he got his dirt bike. Soon after he received it, it broke and we just got all the parts back together. The dirt bike is a 125 2-stroke Yamaha. It is physically larger than you would expect for a 125, but it is a Motocross bike. It sits up high. Christopher can just sit on the seat and touch the ground, tippy-toe of course. Everything went smooth. The only problem is that Chris does not have enough ass to kick-start the thing, and every time it died, I had to start it for him. I don’t mind, just watching him ride HIS dirt bike with that smile makes it worth it for me. He only laid it down once that I saw. He went around a curve a little to brave and fast. The curve was covered with leaves hiding the slick mud underneath. The front tire went one direction and the bike and him went the other. He got up, we picked up the bike, and started riding again. No one got hurt all day, and we got to spend time together enjoying ourselves. I enjoy riding with him as much as I enjoy working on the bike with him. Later.
