Is it fair?

The mother and stepfather of a three-year-old girl who drowned in a drainage ditch last May after being left outside unsupervised with her younger sister have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the child's death.
The child's mother, 27-year-old Tina Bloodsworth Livingston, of Oakdale, pleaded guilty to second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and child desertion in state court in Allen Parish. She was placed on supervised probation with conditions after a five-year prison sentence was suspended. Among the many conditions imposed by District Judge Pat Cole was that she can't supervise any child under the age of 12. Also, all visitations with the surviving child -- who's in the custody of the state -- must be supervised.
The child's stepfather, 37-year-old Edward Livingston, also pleaded guilty to child desertion. A charge of second-degree cruelty against Livingston was dismissed. He was given a suspended sentence of six months in the parish jail and placed on supervised probation for one year.
Marlee Dickens drowned last may and prosecutors contended that the defendants' actions amounted to gross criminal negligence because they left two children, ages three and two, unattended during a time when flood waters were near their home in Oakdale.

This is the article from KPLC. As I complained before about Mary Jean Thigpen’s parents getting off free, this couple gets the root. As you may recall, Mary Jean was playing in her front yard, unsupervised next to the road in their trailer park, when she was abducted, raped, and murdered. Due to the negligence of the parents, this child suffered a horrible death. Same thing for the ones mentioned above. The difference is the Thigpen couple were never charged, and it was “hands across Calcasieu” for them. What is good for one should be good for the other. Later.

To pull the plug or not to pull the plug?

You know, it’s one thing to “pull the plug” on someone that is on life support, has no brain activity, and will never get better. But it is totally different to pull a feeding tube out of someone that has brain activity and a possible chance to get better. It seems to me that it is extremely cruel to let someone starve to death. Lets say Terri Schaiavo had no chance of living a productive life. What about all those mentally retarded that will not live a productive life. Stop feeding them too? What about those in nursing homes? They will never get younger or get healthier. Should we stop feeding them also? The answer is NO!
The results of the bill being passed are as follows:
Republicans 156 Yea 5 Nay
Democrats 47 Yea 53 Nay
Looks like those damn democraps are trying to end life of the living, not just the unborn.

We should try to preserve life at all costs, especially for those who can’t do it for themselves. We should also make them as comfortable as possible. Example: Enough drugs to make them comfortable, but not enough to kill them.
Did this woman have a living will? No. Just by word of mouth supposedly by the only person who wants to kill her. The best thing would be to divorce her, since he already has another woman and kids and wants this wife to die, and let the parents take over.
Would I want to live like that? Only if there is a chance that I could recover. If there is no chance for recovery, I would not want to be a burden on everyone. But on the same token, I would keep my wife alive as long as possible. Maybe I’m just being selfish. I call it loyalty. Later.

A few good posts

The following are listings of posts from various other blogspots. I have found them to be both entertaining and educational from time to time.

Queen Grouch is my wife’s blogspots. She doesn’t write that often, but she is an intelligent woman that writes well.
Mostly Cajun is a fellow co-worker’s (my boss) blogspots. He is a good writer and writes about everything from war stories to gumbo recipes. Go check him out.
Warm Puppies is also a fellow co-workers blogspots. If you love animals or have relatives you don’t care for, go read hers.
Hog On Ice is a pretty good blogspots I read all the time. Here lately, he has been cooking a lot of bar-b-que and experimenting with all sorts of flavors.
Gut Rumbles is another one that I read a lot. Although I do not agree with his religious views, he does make very good points about other topics.

Well, these are just a few of the many I have saved in my favorites. Some I read everyday when I get online, some just once a week. But all of them are unique in their own way, entertaining, and sometimes educational. Later.

Evolution

A fellow worker told me about this site and found he had a lot of interesting things to say. He goes around debating college professors on the theory of evolution. He believes in the bible and proves that evolution is a myth. Go check it out. He has downloadable movie and audio bits. Here is a site that has an audio debate that is downloadable. Later.

New Purchase

I finally broke down and purchased me a trailer yesterday. A modest 16’ tandem axle, but big enough to haul what I need to. I looked at them last year but couldn’t talk myself into it. This year the price is about 60% more due to the steel prices. I found one advertised in a local newspaper for BigTex Trailers so I went by. The ad was supposed to have been pulled two weeks ago, but they honored it anyway. All those around me can rest knowing I won’t be bothering them talking about trailers anymore. I left it at the office in the warehouse until I get a chance to spray the deck with wood treatment. I cleaned the tires with Amorall last night before I went home. Later.

Drunk Chickens

I recently purchased a firebox that attaches to the side of my BBQ pit. This works great for smoking. Sunday I smoked a drunk chicken. This was the second one and even better than the first. Next time I smoke meats I hope it will be a brisket. I start off with a charcoal fire and build it up with white oak. Not that white oak is my wood of preference; it just happened that is the kind of tree I found blown down at the deer lease. I figured it would taste better than pine or tallard tree smoke.
This past Saturday I installed a smoke stack on the back of an electric oven to make me an electric smoker. I have found several electrical smokers on the Internet ranging from metal trashcans with a hot plate in the bottom to elaborate stainless steel boxes. I figured the stove would allow me to control the temperature better and minimize the chance of burning the meat. If any one has a good marinade recipe, I could use one. I used a store bought injection marinade Saturday and let it set overnight in the chicken. It worked okay, but a bit to buttery/oily for me. I had to go to the gas station to get a beer for the drunk chicken at 9 am on Sunday. Luckily I went to Gillis. I fit right in with the other customers. Later.
